3 Video Games You Forgot Were Developed By Obsidian Entertainment

Obsidian Entertainment is a well-known name in video games, especially for role-playing games. They have created some of the best titles in the genre, like Fallout: New Vegas, often called the peak of that series, and the classic isometric RPGs Tyranny and Pillars of Eternity. But the studio has a long history, and not every game they made became a blockbuster hit. Some projects slipped under the radar, even though they were developed by the same team.

One such game is Alpha Protocol. Released in 2010, this espionage RPG let players control a secret agent. It was rough around the edges with clunky shooting mechanics, but it offered a deep branching story where choices truly mattered. The game's dialogue system, with its real-time timers for responses, was ahead of its time. Many fans missed it due to its technical flaws, but it has gained a cult following for its narrative freedom.

Another overlooked title is Dungeon Siege III. This action RPG came out in 2011 and was a departure from Obsidian's usual style. It was more linear and combat-focused than their other games. While it did not capture the magic of its predecessors in the Dungeon Siege series, it was a solid action game with cooperative multiplayer. It often gets forgotten because it does not fit the typical Obsidian mold of deep, choice-driven storytelling.

Finally, there is The Outer Worlds. Wait, that one is actually popular. Instead, consider the often-missed South Park: The Stick of Truth. While many remember this game as a hilarious and faithful adaptation of the TV show, they sometimes forget that Obsidian developed it. The game perfectly captured the show's humor and art style while offering a surprisingly solid turn-based RPG system. It was a critical success, but because it is a licensed game, people often credit the IP rather than the developer who brought it to life.
