The developer behind the upcoming Dawn of War IV has weighed in on the looming competition between two major Warhammer 40,000 strategy titles. In a recent interview, King Art Games stated that they do not view Creative Assembly's recently announced Total War: Warhammer 40,000 as a direct threat to their own project. Instead, the studio believes the two games will coexist peacefully, with fans likely playing both.
According to King Art, the key difference lies in the scale and style of gameplay. Dawn of War IV is expected to focus on smaller, more tactical squad-based combat, while Total War: Warhammer 40,000 will likely emphasize massive, empire-spanning campaigns. The developer argued that these distinct approaches cater to different strategic appetites, meaning players will not have to choose one over the other. "We think the fanbase is big enough and hungry enough for different experiences," the studio explained. "One game is about controlling a handful of elite units in a brutal skirmish. The other is about managing a galactic war. They scratch different itches."
This perspective comes as a relief to many fans who feared a split in the community. With both titles now in active development, the Warhammer 40,000 strategy scene is set for a rare moment of abundance rather than direct competition. King Art remains focused on delivering a faithful adaptation of the grimdark universe, confident that there is room for two very different visions of the 41st millennium.
