Tryll, a startup building an on-device AI gaming engine, has raised $600,000 in a pre-seed funding round. The investment was led by Early Game Ventures, with participation from other undisclosed backers. The company plans to use the capital to scale its platform, which brings artificial intelligence directly onto gaming devices rather than relying on cloud-based processing.
The core of Tryll's technology is an engine that runs AI models locally on a player's hardware, such as a PC, console, or mobile device. This approach aims to reduce latency, improve privacy, and lower the costs associated with server-side AI. By processing data on the device itself, Tryll hopes to enable more responsive and personalized gaming experiences without the need for constant internet connectivity.
The funding will be directed toward expanding the engineering team and refining the engine's compatibility with different game engines and hardware configurations. Tryll also intends to partner with game studios to integrate its AI features into upcoming titles. The company argues that on-device AI can handle tasks like dynamic difficulty adjustment, procedural content generation, and non-player character behavior more efficiently than remote servers.
Early Game Ventures, known for backing early-stage technology startups, sees potential in Tryll's approach as the gaming industry increasingly looks for ways to incorporate AI without sacrificing performance or user control. The round marks a vote of confidence in the shift toward edge computing in interactive entertainment.
