The PlayStation 4 era was a golden age for digital storefronts and live-service experiments, but time has not been kind to every title that launched on the platform. While most games from that generation remain perfectly playable on modern hardware, a handful of notable titles have become completely inaccessible due to server shutdowns, licensing issues, or the removal of essential updates. Here are five classic PS4 games that you simply cannot play today.

First on the list is "P.T.," the interactive teaser for the canceled Silent Hills project. Released for free on the PlayStation Store in 2014, this short horror experience became a viral sensation. Konami removed it from the store shortly after, and anyone who did not download it before the delisting cannot access it today. Even if you have it on your account, re-downloading it requires jumping through complicated hoops, and the game is effectively lost to new players.

Next is "Knack 2." While this might seem like a joke, the game is actually playable if you own the disc. However, the digital version was quietly delisted from the PlayStation Store in 2023. For anyone who missed the physical release, the only way to play it is through a used disc copy, which is becoming harder to find at a reasonable price. It is a strange case of a first-party title simply vanishing.

"Gran Turismo Sport" is another victim of server shutdowns. While the game has a single-player mode, the vast majority of its content, including online races, liveries, and the entire progression system, required a constant internet connection. When Sony shut down the servers in early 2024, the game became a hollow shell. You can still launch it, but the core experience is gone.

"Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" on PS4 suffers from a different issue. The game's Zombies Chronicles edition and many map packs are still available, but the base game's digital version has been delisted in several regions due to licensing disputes with Activision. If you do not own it already, you cannot buy it new, and the physical copies are often tied to specific DLC codes that have expired.

Finally, "The Last of Us Remastered" multiplayer mode, Factions, is still technically playable, but the game's servers are notoriously unstable and filled with cheaters. More importantly, the standalone "Factions" game that Naughty Dog was developing was canceled in 2023. While the original mode limps along, it is no longer the vibrant community it once was, and many consider it unplayable in a competitive sense due to the rampant exploits.
