Renowned automotive photographer Larry Chen has traded his real-world camera for a digital one, becoming a featured character in the upcoming Forza Horizon 6. Known for capturing iconic drift cars and high-octane racing events like Formula Drift, Chen now guides players through the game's new photography mode. In a recent interview, he described the surreal experience of seeing his likeness and voice inside a video game.
"I've spent years shooting cars in the dirt and rain, but this is a whole new challenge," Chen said. "The game lets you control light, angle, and motion in ways that feel very natural to a real photographer." Forza Horizon 6 introduces a deeper photo mode where players can adjust shutter speed, aperture, and even simulate lens flares. Chen's role is to offer tips and unlock special filters as players complete photography challenges across the game's open world.
The collaboration started when the development team approached Chen to bring authenticity to the feature. He consulted on how real car shoots work, from finding the golden hour to framing a perfect rolling shot. "I wanted players to feel that rush when you nail a panning shot of a Ferrari at 150 miles per hour," he added.
Forza Horizon 6 launches next month, and Chen is already planning to host community contests for the best in-game photos. "It's not just about the cars," he said. "It's about the story you tell with them."
