Pixar Announces ‘Cars’ and ‘Coco’ TV and Film Sequels, Video Games and Expansions Across Disney Parks at D23 2026

Pixar used its D23 2026 showcase to lay out a massive slate of projects tied to two of its most beloved franchises. The studio confirmed that both Cars and Coco will expand well beyond their original films, with new movies, television series, video games, and theme park attractions all on the way.

The Cars universe is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, and Pixar is marking the occasion with a Formula 1 collaboration that will bring Lightning McQueen into the world of real motorsport. The partnership will include special merchandise, a short film, and a racing-themed experience at Disneyland. Beyond that, a new Cars feature film is in development, though details are still under wraps. A television series focused on Mater is also planned, with the tow truck getting his own solo adventures.

On the Coco side, the big surprise was the announcement that Coco 2 is officially happening. The sequel will follow Miguel as a young adult, and the first teaser hinted at a crossover with Kingdom Hearts IV. That news sent fans into a frenzy, as it suggests the Disney and Square Enix game series will include the Land of the Dead as a playable world. A Coco video game is also in the works, separate from the Kingdom Hearts tie-in.

Disney Parks will see expansions for both properties. A new Cars ride is coming to Disney's California Adventure, while a Coco-themed land is planned for the Mexico pavilion at Epcot. No release dates were given for most of these projects, but Pixar said more details will arrive in 2027.
